We offer four different courses:

Teach RE Subject Knowledge – for those about to embark on secondary initial teacher training

Teach RE Complete – for serving teachers (with QTS) working in all phases

Teach RE Module Only – for serving teachers (with QTS) in the secondary phase only

Teach RE LITE – for those undertaking primary initial teacher training and primary NQTs

 

Teach RE Subject Knowledge

Who is this course for?

This course is aimed at those who are about to embark on initial teacher training to become secondary school RE teachers. This course focuses specifically on developing subject knowledge. The modules take the form or essays and powerpoint presentations.

The course comprises:

• An audit: Discussing your subject knowledge needs in RE and building on your strengths
• Module One: Setting the context. This consists of three short tasks – rationale, research and pedagogy
• Module Two: An essay on two different religions and/or worldview
• Module Three or Four: A further essay or a powerpoint presentation about one or two different religions and/or worldview
• Tutor and self assessment

You are supported throughout the course by the course leader and by a personal tutor.

Course length:

There are three different pathways through the course to meet the needs of different trainees:
• Standard: You complete one module per term (i.e. one year to complete)
• Fast Track: You complete one module per month (i.e 3 months to complete)
• Super Fast Track: You complete one module per week (i.e. up to one month to complete)
A certificate is awarded on successful completion of the course.

Trainee Handbook Subject Knowledge

 

Teach RE Complete

Who is this course for?

This course is for primary and secondary teachers working in all phases of education. It can be tailored to subject leaders who want to work towards RE Quality Mark, or can support a teacher who has another specialism and is required to teach GCSE Religious Studies. The course aims at helping all those who want to understand the purpose of RE, as well as developing different areas of expertise.

The course comprises:

  • An audit: Discussing your professional development needs in RE and building on your strengths
  • Module One: Setting the context. This consists of three short tasks – rationale, research and pedagogy
  • Two further modules of your choice. There is a wide choice of modules including powerpoint presentations, creating a scheme of learning or multi media presentation, curriculum design tasks and effective subject leadership.   • Tutor and self assessment

You are supported throughout the course by the course leader and by a personal tutor.

Course length:

There are three different pathways through the course to meet the needs of different trainees:

  • Standard: You complete one module per term (i.e. one year to complete)
  • Fast Track: You complete one module per month (i.e 3 months to complete)
  • Super Fast Track: You complete one module per week (i.e. up to one month to complete)

A certificate is awarded on successful completion of the course.

Teach RE Module Only

Who is this course for?

This course is for serving secondary teachers who want to improve their subject knowledge to teach specific aspects of the GCSE and A level specifications. It is not available to those without qualified teacher status.

The course comprises:

  • An audit: Focusing specifically on areas of subject knowledge where you would like support and help
  • A module of your choice which could be an essay, powerpoint, scheme of learning or multi media presentation. The aim is to support your subject knowledge development so that you feel more confident to teach GCSE and A level
  • Tutor and self assessment

There is an option to do one further module in this version of the course.

You are supported throughout the course by the course leader and by a personal tutor.

Course length:

There are three different pathways through the course to meet the needs to different trainees:

  • Standard: You complete one module over term
  • Fast Track: You complete one module over a month
  • Super Fast Track: You complete one module over two weeks

A certificate is awarded on successful completion of the course.

Cost:

£70 per module (up to a maximum of two modules)

Teach RE LITE

Who is this course for?

This course is for those currently undertaking primary initial teaching training or for those in their NQT year in a primary school or academy. The course helps those entering the primary teaching profession to understand the purpose of RE and how to teach it effectively.

The course comprises:

• A short audit: Focusing specifically on how you feel about beginning to teach RE
• Task One: Why is RE on the timetable?
• Task Two: Where can I find accurate information about RE?
• Task Three: What does good teaching and learning look like in RE?
• Task Four: What do I need to know to teach RE effectively?
• Tutor and self assessment

You are supported throughout the course by the course leader and by a personal tutor.

Course length:

There are three different pathways through the course to meet the needs to different trainees:
• Fast Track: You complete the course over three months
• Super Fast Track: You complete the course over a month
A certificate is awarded on successful completion of the course.
